Consumerism can be seen as a truly unhealthy social trend. It’s essentially capitalism at its most extreme! As consumers, we are constantly bombarded with advertisements. We are pushed to believe that we can get “more for less” or that we can get deals after deals after deals.
Many people go on shopping frenzies, often buying more than they want or need, just because marketing pushes them to! Some companies, even large global corporations, just run their businesses for profits, and they don’t have ethics. They don’t consider the environment or people, and as a result, mass production and consumerism cause many issues, including inequality and lack of opportunity, poverty in third world countries, as well as pollution, and massive waste.
You can break the chain if you want to! Stop being a mindless consumer, and buy no evil! Make the right choices, and be mindful so you can achieve a sustainable lifestyle. You will quickly learn that you really don’t need to “buy all that stuff,” and on the contrary, a more sustainable life can be happier and more rewarding. Instead of buying hundreds of cheap, worthless knick-knacks, you can buy fewer things, but of better quality. This way, you’ll enjoy much better products in your life, and they’ll last you a lot longer, reducing waste!
